Commercial Estimator

As our commercial project portfolio grows, we are looking for a capable and practical Estimator to join our team.
The role
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Manager, you will prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. You will contribute to tendering, cost planning, subcontractor pricing and tender handover, helping Centina secure profitable projects.
What you’ll be doing
- Analyse project plans, drawings, specifications and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely tender submissions, expressions of interest and budget estimates
- Identify and quantify project risks, and propose cost-effective solutions or contingencies
- Break down scope packages for subcontractor pricing and review quotes for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare preliminary budgets and cost plans during concept and schematic stages
- Work with architects, engineers and consultants to develop value engineering options
- Maintain and update historical cost databases and benchmarking tools
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotes and ensure scope coverage
- Evaluate and compare subcontractor pricing, inclusions, exclusions and compliance with project requirements
- Prepare estimate breakdowns and reports, maintain accurate tender and pricing records, and assist with successful tender handovers, including project budgets
- Work with pre-construction, design and construction teams to maintain consistency between estimated costs and construction delivery
- Attend site inspections, industry briefings and pre-tender meetings as required, and provide post-tender support with queries, clarifications and negotiations
About you
You are an organised and analytical estimating professional who takes care to prepare accurate, competitive estimates. You communicate clearly, work collaboratively with project teams and follow tender matters through to completion.
You will bring:
- Three to five years’ estimating experience in commercial construction, ideally across projects such as offices, retail, education, healthcare or industrial
- Strong knowledge of building systems, construction methods and market pricing
- The ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in estimating and take-off software such as CostX, Buildsoft, Cubit, Bluebeam or equivalent
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or a related field
- Knowledge of relevant Australian building codes and standards, where applicable
- A Construction Industry White Card and current Australian driver’s licence
